Instructor Biographies
Bauerlein, John  (SAS, SDA, CAA)
Mr. Bauerlein has earned a BS in Technology Education, an MS in Instructional Technology, and has
advanced certification in School Administration and Supervision (SAS), School District Administration
(SDA), and Certified Athletic Administration (CAA).  He has served as Vice Principal, and is currently the
Director of Athletics for the Pleasantville School District.  John is also a member of the Section One
Executive Committee, Section One Alignment Committee, Vice President of Conference III, and on the
Section One Football Committee.

Bergen, Stephanie (BS, MS)
Stephanie Bergen holds a BA in Elementary Education and English from Dowling College and an MS in
Literacy from   Dowling College. Stephanie has taught in the Connetquot School  
District for several years. In addition to teaching in the Connetquot   School District, she is also a member
of the DATA Team. The DATA Team analyzes the outcomes of the NYS Assessments in grades 3-5. This
data is then used to align curriculum and address gaps in students’ learning.

Connell, James Capt. (BS, MS)
Cpt. Connell is a licensed sea captain.  His vast knowledge of the local waterways gives him an inside look
at the local ecosystems.  His experience makes him a superb marine biology instructor.  Capt. Connell is
also certified in K-12 Technology Education, and teaches high school technology in the East Islip School

Doe, Andrew L. (MD, VIR)
Dr. Doe graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York with a BSH in Mathematics. He
received his medical training at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse New York and completed a
Residency at Wilson Memorial Medical Center in Johnson City, New York. Dr. Doe went on to a Radiology
Residency at Upstate Medical Center followed by an Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Albany Medical
Center. He completed a tour of duty with the United States Army in Kosovo as Chief of Radiology with the
4206th.  He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and is a member of the Society of
Interventional Radiology and the American College of Radiology.
Dr. Doe is an avid sportsman/athlete, and enjoys using his vast background to teach educators about
nutrition, physiology, and sports medicine.

Hartranft, Greg  (BS, MS, MS, SDA)
Greg  earned a BS  in Technology Education (K-12) from Oswego State University in New York and began
teaching at the West Babylon Junior High School. He received his first masters in Instructional Technology
from the New York Institute of Technology. He then earned a second masters in Educational Administration
from the College of New Rochelle in New York and began working as dean of students and summer school
assistant principal in the West Babylon School District. Mr. Hartranft has taught several summer institute
courses and is also a turn-key instructor of Verizon Foundation's Thinkfinity teacher resource (formally
Marco Polo).

Hodyno, Brant E. Esq. (BA, JD, LLM)
Brant E. Hodyno is been a practicing attorney in New York (2005), Florida (2010), and Arizona (2013). He
is fluent in Spanish and dedicates his law practice to the litigation and arbitration of complex first and third-
party insurance and reinsurance coverage disputes. In addition, Mr. Hodyno works as a liaison with his
firm's Latin American clients, staying abreast of the trends and legal ramifications of the developing
markets of South America and the Caribbean.  
He takes great pleasure in reaching out to educators, and teaching them ways in which to incorporate his
experience into interactive lessons in civics, language, writing and ethics.

Kench, Rachel (BA, MA)
Rachel holds a BA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Maine, and an MS in English Education
from Long Island University.  She has developed curriculum for the Staff Development Center of the Islips,
and instructed online courses for SCOPE Educational Services.

Kench, Harold J. (BS, MS)
Harold holds a BS in Technology Education (K-12) from SUNY Oswego, and an MS in Instructional
Technology (with distinction) from the New York Institute of Technology.  He has developed and taught
graduate level courses for Fitchburg State College, Chapman University, and Manhattan College.  He has
also developed in-service curriculum for SCOPE Educational Services, The Long Island Learning Institute
for Educators, The Staff Development Center of the Islips, and The Valley Stream Teacher Resource

Kramer, Nana (DVM)
Dr. Nana Kramer, DVM, has been on the forefront of online learning for many years.  Dr. Kramer has
played an intricate role in many national staff development webinars catering to educators, veterinarians,
and their support staffs.
